MARe - Museum of Recent Art

15 Primăverii Blvd., Sector 1, Bucharest

MARe presents to the public more than 150 works exhibited in a 1200 square meter building, spread over 5 levels. Representing probably the most important private investment in a project of this kind, MARe utterly assumes the role of catalyst, being a new cultural landmark on the map of Bucharest and aims to be from all points of view a “space-event” open to contemporary art. MARe/Museum of Recent Art, created and managed by the MARe Foundation, opened to the public in October 2018. MARe Foundation was founded in February 2015, with the mission to support and develop the activity of MARe/Museum of Recent Art, the first private museum in Romania focused on local art of the last 50 years.
The museum holds over 1000 works of art by more than 250 Romanian and foreign artists, including Ion Țuculescu, Andrei Cădere, Horia Bernea, Ion Grigorescu, Dan Perjovschi, Herman Nitsch, Lucio Fontana, and Michelangelo Pistoletto. More than 120 of these are on display in the rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors. The architecture of the building was designed by YTAA - Youssef Tohme Architects, Beirut/London; interior design (boutique) by Noro Khatchatryan/Brusselsiar; landscaping by Ana Marti-Baron, MDP Michel Desvigne Paysagiste/Paris.
