Roxana Constantinescu

  • Voice

Praised by the international press as a “world-class mezzo-soprano – where, thanks to her opulent lower register, reminiscent of a vintage Port wine, and her radiant top notes – her singing is flawless and her interpretation remarkable” (Star Tribune), Roxana Constantinescu began her career as a soloist in the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera and soon established herself on the international stage.

Roxana recently made her debut at the Paris Opera in Handel’s Alcina under Thomas Hengelbrock, sang the title role in Vivaldi’s Juditha Triumphans at the Greek National Opera in a Mezzo TV production, and has been invited to perform at numerous renowned opera houses including La Fenice, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Los Angeles Opera, Zurich Opera, Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, New National Theatre Tokyo, Beijing Opera, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, and Theater an der Wien, among others.

Constantinescu has collaborated with some of the most important conductors of our time, including Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Muti, Fabio Luisi, Gustavo Dudamel, Lawrence Foster, Marco Armiliato, and Bertrand de Billy, and has performed with major orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony, the Vienna, Los Angeles, and Munich Philharmonics, the Bavarian Radio Symphony, Bach Collegium Japan, Seattle Symphony, Toronto Symphony, the George Enescu Philharmonic, and the Romanian Radio National Orchestra.

Her appearances include recitals at Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Musikverein, and Palais Eschenbach, along with recordings for BIS Records, OEHMS, Pentatone, CSO Resound, Hänssler Classic, SWR, and Carus. Nominated for a Grammy Award for the recording of Pulcinella conducted by Pierre Boulez, Roxana Constantinescu was born in Bucharest and graduated from the National University of Music under the guidance of the renowned soprano Maria Slătinaru Nistor, later pursuing an Erasmus program at the University of Music in Vienna and a double master’s degree in Opera and Lied in Munich.
